Doctoral school

Doctoral school

The doctoral school is the structure that organizes doctoral studies within universities.

It implements an admission policy for doctoral students, based on explicit, public criteria. It informs students of the conditions for admission and the skills required. It is responsible for registering and re-registering doctoral students with the institution, monitoring their work in support of the thesis director, and organizing doctoral training courses.

It participates in the search for funding and proposes its allocation to enable doctoral students to prepare and defend their thesis in the best possible conditions (doctoral contracts, CIFRE contracts, etc.).

The doctoral school organizes scientific exchanges between doctoral students and with the scientific community (Journée des doctorants and Journées d’études de l’ED). It offers doctoral students training activities that promote interdisciplinarity and the acquisition of a broader scientific culture, including knowledge of the international framework of research (ED Study Days). It ensures that all doctoral students receive training in research ethics and scientific integrity.

The doctoral school ensures the quality of training by setting up individual doctoral student monitoring committees. It defines and implements measures to support the pursuit of professional careers after the doctorate, in both the public and private sectors.

Doctoral school contributes to European and international openness, through cooperative ventures with foreign higher education establishments or research centers (co-tutoring). As part of the thesis defense that concludes doctoral training, the ED management validates the jury and participates in the organization of the defense.

The doctoral school works closely with the research laboratories that host doctoral students.

The role of the ED is to provide doctoral students with research training through research, and to help them develop their thesis with a view to professional integration. The coherence of the TESC ED is underpinned by the cross-disciplinary skills developed by its host teams, in close collaboration with the Pôle Ville of Université Toulouse 2 and the “Heritage” and “Territories” axes of the Maison des Sciences de l’Homme et de la Société de Toulouse.
