Word the training manager

For 40 years, ESTHUA has been training professionals in tourism, hospitality and culture, with a particular emphasis on their international dimension. The African Worlds Master's degree complements this international dimension by training students interested in the development of tourism in or to Africa. Thanks to their high academic standards, future graduates will be equally well-suited to working for public companies or in the commercial sector. This training program, unique in France, offers the opportunity to become a specialist in African tourism. It is also based on active cooperation with African universities, in particular the Assane-Seck University in Ziguinchor, Senegal. Students will thus be able to acquire tourism skills that are fully rooted in the local realities of sub-Saharan Africa and the Maghreb.

Training Manager

Training objectives

Between its vast natural spaces (national parks, sandy beaches, deserts, etc.) and its colorful heritage (folklore, historical relics, religious sites, etc.), Africa abounds in tourism potential. According to studies by the Agence Française du Développement (AFD), tourism is one of the sectors that can offer real employment opportunities to Africa's youth. These young people represent more than half of the continent's population. The emergence of an African middle class is now helping to develop the continent's tourism economy. Local tourists and foreign visitors alike need quality facilities and services that meet international standards. African public administrations also need experts to develop and generate the continent's tourism facilities and sites. The African Worlds program aims to train future professionals specializing in African destinations. Its originality lies on the one hand in its active teaching approach, with over 25% of lectures by African academics and professionals, and on the other hand in its research projects on African destinations (tourism and local development, tourism and health, tourism and digital technology, ecotourism, etc.).

Job opportunities professionals

Graduates of the Master's degree in Tourism in African Worlds will be able to occupy management positions in private companies (tour operators, travel agencies, accommodation, ecotourism structures, etc.) and in associations and NGOs in Africa or outside Africa. They will also be eligible for positions of responsibility in public administrations (tourism ministries, tourism offices, tourism development agencies, etc.). Potential employers and companies able to welcome students for internships:
  • In France: TO offering African destinations (Atalante, Arvel Voyages, FRAM, Terres d'Aventure, Voyageurs du Monde etc.), associations and NGOs (ATES, Vision du Monde, etc.).
  • In Africa: Senegal (SAPCO, Agence régionale du tourisme de la Casamance, Club Med Sénégal, Lamarsu cap skiring). Benin (Office Nationale du tourisme du Benin). Togo (Parc Naturel de Sarakawa, Hôtel ONOMO), Zimbabwe (Agence Sikiliza) Tunisia (Office de Tourisme de Tunis), Algeria (TIZI Voyage).

The course is open to all students holding a Bachelor's degree in Tourism, Economics, Management, Public Administration, Law, Political Science, Geography, Applied Foreign Languages, Science, Computer Science and Digital Technology, etc. A grounding in tourism and basic subjects (languages, economics, accounting, etc.) will be required. Otherwise, candidates will have to bring themselves up to speed by their own means (reading, MOOCs, etc.) in these subjects. The relevance of the candidate's career plan (suitability of training/career, etc.) will be a decisive criterion in the selection process. Experience in tourism (internships, seasonal jobs) will be appreciated.
