The Master's degree in Sports and Adventure Tourism is a multi-disciplinary, multi-sport course that combines excellence and conviviality. It is taught on the Saumur campus, with its new, welcoming facilities due to open in September 2022. Students benefit from a close-knit teaching and administrative team, participative and hands-on methods, and professional conferences given by former students. They're also close to sports facilities and events: IFCE, equestrian centers, golf, accrobranche, stadium, water sports center, Loire à vélo, Loire Marathon, etc.

Training objectives

The aim of the program is to train professionals in tourism and sports and adventure leisure activities, in a wide range of professions and sports practices. The program is distinguished by its combination of courses taught by recognized academics and professionals from the sports tourism sector. It is organized into skills units, designed to enable students to :
  • understand the socio-spatial issues involved in sports and adventure tourism (trends in tourism and sports practices, sociology of sports enthusiasts, public sports policies, equine institutions and prospects, players in outdoor activities, outdoor accommodation and sports leisure, knowledge of international sports institutions, etc.);
  • communicate in a professional context (English, reinforced English or second language, intercultural communication, public speaking, meeting facilitation, digital communication, etc.);
  • management (HRM, management of companies in the sector, creation of tourism and sports products, marketing and communication, distribution of adventure tourism products, management of a golf complex, creation of sports events, event marketing, etc.). ) ;
  • protect and regulate (sustainable development, CSR, law, quality approach, accessibility and ethics, sports facility regulations, etc.).
  But also :
  • develop a two-year research project (research methodology, seminar, statistics and data processing, dissertation follow-up);
  • build a professional project (CV building, strategic intelligence, professional conferences).
  This multi-disciplinary Master's degree provides training in the diversity of sports and adventure tourism professions and practices. It is open to the international scene, with study semesters abroad offered as a gap year between M1 and M2 in one of ESTHUA's 150 partner universities around the world. The program also offers strong professional integration thanks to two long internships - 4 to 5 months in M1; 6 months in M2.

There are plenty of opportunities in companies and associations in the sports and adventure tourism sector (equestrian, golf, water sports, outdoor sports, indoor sports, team sports, etc.). They can also be found in federations. Jobs can be :
  • Director of sports tourism sites ;
  • Sports tourism product manager ;
  • Distribution manager for tourism and sports products ;
  • Marketing manager ;
  • Events Manager ;
  • Team manager ;
  • Communications/Marketing Manager ;
  • Customer manager for a specialized tour operator, etc.

Profile of the applicant

Several profiles are accepted. Among the skills required are: a passion for leisure sports. You don't need to be a top-level sportsman or sportswoman, but sport must be important enough for you to want to dedicate part of your professional project to it; you must be aware of tourism issues and enjoy traveling; and you must have a good command of English (B2/B1 level).   Preferred, but not exclusive, courses include bachelor's degrees in: social sciences (geography, sociology, history, etc.), tourism/sports tourism, STAPS, management sciences...
